I’ve had the pleasure and displeasure of owning a “community server” for about 13 months now.
I’ve been a daily user of Teamspeak for the last 20 years now. I have hosted and rented 3rd party servers over the years. I swapped to a Teamspeak run “community server” with the hope of being able to uninstall Discord. I use Discord for its screen sharing capabilities (that is the only reason it is installed tbh) and to have it all in my primary VOIP software, Teamspeak.
When Teamspeak released the “community servers” with those capabilities, I went for it.
And man, I have not been able to use it at all, not a single time have it worked, sure it streams something, not that anyone can watch it, the stream freezes the second someone starts to watch it, same for everyone else trying to stream on the server.
And now, the last few months, user avatar uploads have stopped working, In-chat Youtube videos can’t play anymore. The privileges I can change and have access to are less than 5% of that what Teamspeak3 servers offered. There are no “restart server” button available, nothing I can do on my end with the server. The “community dashboard” on my Teamspeak website account gives me no control, all i can do is watch the amount of months I have paid for this service, that’s what I have access to.
Please shed some light on these issues, clarify things and what to expect in the future.
the ts6 self hosted server on github seems to grant a ton more control. if you or someone you know has symmetrical internet (ex: 300 mb upload) you might look into trying it out.
Sadly I don’t have the time or the hardware to host a server anymore. I was thinking that getting a server straight from the source would be the absolute best and easiest solution.
You know like, “why buy a car from a dealership, when you can get it straight from the factory floor, for the same price. haha. Guess I am a sucker.
