Crazy idea, but maybe make the free license not expire every month?

I definitely get your point, but it probably makes a lot of sense for the reason Gamer92000 mentions here:

Licence not valid - server does not boot as of today - default licence

To make sure you run an up to date version. I guess since this server version is still in active development they want to reduce the number of outdated bug reports caused by outdated installations.
