Default microphone gets messed up

Whenever I use TS6 with an AirPods, the default input device (which is the Mac’s internal mic) gets switched over to the AirPods (not something I want it to do), but it still shows the default as the Mac. I can only reset it if I switch it to the AirPods and then back to the Mac again. This happens every time I get disconnected and reconnected to the laptop.

Hello @Zsande and welcome to the TeamSpeak Forum.

This sounds like TS6 is switching the actual input route to the AirPods internally, while the UI still shows the Mac/internal mic or default device.

The part that makes it feel like a TS6 issue is that it only fixes itself after manually selecting the AirPods and then switching back to the Mac mic. So it looks like the selected input device is not being reapplied correctly after the AirPods reconnect.

I would try selecting the Mac internal microphone directly instead of using “Default”, and use the AirPods only as the output device. Also check macOS Sound settings after the AirPods reconnect, because macOS can sometimes change the active input device when Bluetooth devices reconnect.

Sadly I don’t have macOS myself, so I can’t test this exact behavior on my side. But if TS6 still switches to the AirPods even when the Mac mic is selected directly, then this is probably a macOS audio device handling issue in TS6.

Logs right after the AirPods reconnect would be useful, together with the exact macOS version, TS6 version and AirPods model.

On macOS, the TeamSpeak 6 logs should be located here: ~/Library/logs/TeamSpeak/Default.

If there is anything else you need, I’m happy to help.

Thanks for the log.

That actually makes the issue a bit clearer. It sounds like TS6 still shows the correct/default microphone in the settings, but after the AirPods reconnect, the real active input changes in the background. Since switching to AirPods and then back to the Mac mic fixes it, it feels like the audio device state only refreshes after changing it manually.

This does sound like a macOS audio device handling issue in TS6 to me.

It would be interesting to know whether the Mac internal mic was selected directly, or if it was only set to “Default”. Also, does this only happen with AirPods, or with other Bluetooth devices as well?

Thanks for the report, after checking with the team this sounds more like an issue on our end.

We’ll have a look at this.

The internal mic was selected directly, because the default gets switched over to the AirPods, but I don’t want to use that due to bandwidth limitations.

However, this problem only occurs with AirPods, normal bluetooth devices work just fine. One additional info I can add is that the bluetooth connection does not stop when the AirPods disconnect, it keeps the connection and when the devices get closer again, they reconnect. Regular bluetooth headphones just get disconnected.

Hope this helps.

Okay we’ve had a more in depth look at this issue and this is actually the normal macOS behavior. So this is not a bug in the client.

Even when selecting in macOS a different input device it switches to the air pods as soon as they are connected. This is also visible inside of the system settings.

You can find some workarounds or external tools which change this behavior:

or you can explicitly select the input device manually inside of the TeamSpeak client and it won’t switch on it’s own. Then it is independent from the system behavior.
