I think it would be cleaner if incoming contact requests could be hidden via a dropdown, or if existing contacts could be moved above the incoming requests.
In my opinion, accepting or rejecting the request is just a simple click. Most users probably don’t receive enough requests for this to become an actual issue (unless they are Kylie Jenner). As far as I know, contact requests expire after a while anyway, even if you were to accept them. You either have to live in the moment and accept or decline the request.
Of course, if you can’t resist requests that you really want to accept, set your DMs to “Auto-accept.” You can always remove your contacts later.

I don’t see the necessity of this, especially since you can then miss incoming requests when the dropdown is closed.
You either want the user to be in your contact list or you don’t. There’s no need to delay it into the future.
