Ik that programs like Skype and some other programs have had some problems with people getting their IPs grabbed and some other personal information. I have 2 questions.
Does Skype’s problem with privacy invasion has to do with it being p2p?
Please don’t be scarred of following In short: there will always be ways to get your IP but not anyone can get it easily.
Why? You are connecting to server hosted by someone. And someone and mostly the admin of servers can see IP’s.
But in 99,9% other users are not the host or admin of servers and without any interaction from you they can not see any IP. In that case only the server knows the IP and just forwards information needed for the client.
I’m self-hosting a private TS6 beta server and I was looking to see if there were any specific connection information toggles that I can adjust. I like having most of the information possible on the connection info tab, but I’d like it if people weren’t able to directly view other Clients IP addresses. If possible, I’d like to limit access to view Client IP Address to those with Server Admin privileges. Is there any to disable just the IP address section in “Connection Info” for Normal users?
Normal users can’t see the IP address, only server admins.
you changed something or one of your friends changed something in the group permissions, because by default normal users are not able to see the client IP.
I would really really like to move to Team Speak with what’s going on right now. Just one thing that’s been bugging me is your IP address (anybody’s IP Address) being exposed when they join a server private or public.
If possible is there any possibility that this can be addressed in a new update? I think both IP and location should be hidden for privacy sake.
IP address is only visible to users with the View Client Remote Address (b_client_remoteaddress_view) permission. The exception is P2P screensharing, but that will be fixed when server streaming comes out.
As for hiding your country, it currently cannot be disabled.
I think for security sake at least, admins should never be allowed to have access to your IP Address. Even for me, if I were an admin of a group and given access to someone’s IP, I feel would be violating their privacy. It’s not right to say the least in my opinion.
What would happen if the Admin were to suddenly leak your information after you got into a heated argument? That’s one of my biggest worries.
You never know if the admin has good intentions or not having access to that information.
Permissions depend on the server owner, if they didn’t want other admins to see client IPs, they can set the permissions up like that.
There is literally nothing that TeamSpeak can do to hide IPs from the server owner. Even they were hidden in the UI, anyone who has access to the underlying server (most often only the server owner) can just see what TCP connections are open and cross reference them to connected users.
Connecting to a TeamSpeak server is more like connecting to a Minecraft server, than joining a Discord server, since you are connecting to a server hosted by a certain person, not just joining a group hosted on a centralized service.
this is jsut wrong i legit gave out the invite link to my server and watch as my ip came up on my friends computer he def wasnt admin so dont know why people are saying only admins can see the ip cause thats not the case
it was in ther server info section i had to remove the connection link from my discord cause i didnt want them to see that ip it also use my devices ip not my public
So, you invited your friend to your server, which is hosted on your computer and it showed your IP in the server info tab. Do I understand that correctly?
That’s how internet works: when you host a server and someone wants to connect to it, they need to know the server’s IP address.
Unless you host the server somewhere else, there’s nothing that can be done about it.
