How does the TS6 Server beta phase work?

Since the thread regarding the slot limit question was simply closed (Beta release - limited slots available on Server - #13), presumably to nip any future discussion in the bud, I am now asking again here, very directly:

Will the slot limit of 32 be reduced in the final TS6 server Community Edition?

Aside from that, the statement “The slot limit has been increased with the latest release.” is simply a lie.
The slot limit was not increased – instead, a test license valid for 2 months was included.

The topic was closed as it was no longer an active discussion. If necessary, we could unlist, archive, or remove it but there’s no intent to bury any part of the conversation.

“The slot limit has been increased with the latest release.”

The slots were increased from 5 to 32 slots. From my understanding of the english language it was an increase of the slots.

As mentioned in the announcement:

This way was intended to have a controlled testing scenario that was not ment to be deployed on a large production server. That’s why we had no other options available to acquire a larger license, not even available to users who had purchased one in the past.

With the limited license of 2 months we make sure that the administrator of the server frequently updates the server to the latest version. As it may result in bugs or exploits which when deployed in production scenario can have fatal consequences.

As we approach the next license renewal date, we plan to release an update for the self-hosted TeamSpeak 6 Server that will extend the license duration again.

This approach isn’t new for us. We’ve followed a similar model for years with the default TeamSpeak 3 license, though those had longer expiration windows due to a slower update cycle.

While I can’t share final details yet about changes to the slots. And I personally wouldn’t be the one to make such announcements.

Our goal is to ensure if any licensing changes are made they are fair and work well for the entire community.

Looking at the new shape of TS6, I’ve heard there’s a free server for 32 slots with a potential renewal every 2 months.

Are my informations correct?

Nothing to buy, auto renewal of the SAME server without restart?

Thanks for the reply

(sorry if these have been answered already)

It’s very Important to note that this is for the BETA Testing of the TS6 Server.

You can’t purchase a larger license, you can’t use your current TS3 license, and we renew the default license every two months for the BETA period.

Limitations: Please note that TeamSpeak 3 Server licenses are not compatible with TeamSpeak 6 Servers, and currently, there is no migration path available between the two versions.

Beta License: The server includes a 32-slot Beta License that will be renewed every two months throughout the beta/evaluation period, until licensing and pricing are finalized.

Additionally, it is not yet possible to obtain or upgrade to a larger license for TeamSpeak 6.

Yeah, I used too be on TS3 a long time a go and don’t currently own a server. Wanted to create one from scratch for friends and myself. Dont need to purchase a larger license neither migrate TS3 server to TS6

So in the end, I could create a free 32 slots server for friends with a renewal every 2 months until final pricing announced.

Got it

Thanks for the reply

Correct, you can simply self-host it if you’d like, and you’re more than welcome to share feedback as well, though that’s entirely optional of course.

Once all the details for the TS6 Server are finalized, we’ll make separate announcements anyway.

Have fun!

I recently created a TeamSpeak 6 server with a free license for 32 slots. Earlier I read that this license is available only until February 1.
My question is what will happen to the server after the license expires? Will I be able to continue using the server for free?

good afternoon. this is the license expiration date for the current server version. The developers will update the server version in advance with a license extension.

Also because of the licensing the server won’t be available to run after these 2 months period I assume. So it means if you don’t update to the latest version of the beta, you won’t be able to even access your own server, requiring the user to update it manually.

Hey,

I have my own server and self-hosted TS6. Is it possible to increase the maximum number of users from 32 to, say, 64? I also read that I can only have 32 members for 2 months, is that correct?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards,

You can see the detailed reply here:

TL;DR
You currently can’t buy a larger license. And all 2 months the server needs to be re downloaded in order for the license to work again. → meaning every 2 months it gets renewed for a few months

Hello. Please tell me if there are any workarounds for the problem below besides updating the server?

I’m quite happy with TS overall, but this license thing is really bothering me, because I live in Russia and I’m basically preparing for the Internet shutdown. Obviously under these circumstances I won’t be able to download any newer versions of the TS server. So, is there any way to fix this license issue before it’s too late? Can I have a persistent free license somehow?

From what I understand, is that this isn’t really possible I don’t think unfortunately.

Currently server licenses are short to encourage people to keep their servers up to date during beta phase.

Thank you guys for the answers.
And, in case the devs read this post. I’m sorry, I understand how it sounds, but may we at least consider making it possible, given the circumstances?

There is a Teamspeak 3 server you could run but you’d lose the beta feature of screensharing and images etc.

You could use the TS3 server which is still valid until somewhere in 2027. The only way to get a full offline license would be to get in touch with sales and acquire a LAN license, however those are a bit pricy.
