Larger Push-to-Talk button for road/construction workers and business use

Hi TeamSpeak Team,

I am writing to share some feedback regarding the TeamSpeak 3 or 6 mobile client, specifically about how the microphone controls are mapped on phones.

I am currently introducing TeamSpeak to local businesses that employ workers on the road or on construction sites—such as electricians, truckers, and field technicians. For these companies, I set up a dedicated server directly on their own local infrastructure using the free TeamSpeak license. It is a fantastic, secure tool for them, but the current mobile UI is a bit of a hurdle for frontline workers.

Right now, the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button on the mobile screen is quite small. It is very hard to hit reliably when someone is driving on site, working on a job site, wearing gloves, or focusing on a task.

It would be a massive improvement if the PTT button was designed as a full-width bar or a much larger touch zone across the screen or button on the side as hotkey. This way, a worker could easily rest their thumb anywhere on that wide bar to talk without having to look down at their phone to find a tiny icon.

Additionally, it would be ideal to give users total flexibility on the fly:

  1. Hold to Talk (Walkie-Talkie): Press and hold the wide bar to speak, release to mute.

  2. Toggle Lock: Tap the bar once to leave the mic open, and tap it again later to close it.

  3. Voice Activation: Switch completely to direct voice detection when hands-free operation is required.

Adjusting the mobile interface to support this kind of quick “walkie-talkie” flexibility would not only help gamers, but it would also make TeamSpeak an incredible, unmatched communication tool for real-world businesses and mobile workforces.

Thank you for listening to community feedback, and keep up the great work!

Hey DeeZNuTs, are you using the iOS or Android client?

In the iOS client, you can go to Settings and enable Big PTT Button mode.

Android does not currently have this feature, but I can create a feature ticket for it.

Android

Ok that’s sad in this case :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:. I added a feature request for that. If you got some workers with iphone you can enable the big ptt button feature for them ^^
