Hallo Forum!
Mit diesem Thread möchte ich einmal meine Meinung zur aktuellen Beta zu TeamSpeak 5 kunt tun.
Ich versuche hier zum einen natürlich die Entwickler zu erreichen, aber vielleicht auch ein paar Ideen für die Community streuen, die vielleicht das ein oder andere in Plugins umsetzen kann.
Seit jeher bin ich TS-Nutzer und will es auch in Zukunft bleiben, da ich bisher keine angenehmere VoIP-Software kenne als TS. Einfach zu nutzen und Ressourcenschohnend auf den Systemen.
Einige Neuerungen gehen mir aber derb gegen de Strich, weshalb ich hier mal meiner Meinung etwas Platz verschaffen möchte.
Bevor wir beginnen, eine kleine Anmerkung zum gesamten Text.
Ja, TS5 ist in der Beta-Phase. Ja, es können sich immer noch Dinge ändern. Ja, Bugs treten auf.
Jeder kann seine eigene Meinung haben und etwas gut oder schlecht finden.
Dieser Text ist aber aktuell meine Meinung zu der Software und nichts weiter.
Ja an einigen Stellen ist die Wortwahl etwas hart, aber das spiegelt meine Meinung einfach besser wieder, statt eine „schöne heile Welt“-Sprache zu nutzen.
Wer sich also über meine Meinung aufregen muss, der soll das machen. Ist mir egal.
Achtet auch auf das Erstellungsdatum dieses Posts. Es können ja mittlerweile einige Punkte anders sein.
(Gibt ja sehr salzige Menschen da draußen, die durch ein kleinen Mist direkt auf 180 sind 
)
Rechtschreibfehler und sonstiges darf behalten und gegessen werden.
Okay legen wir los 
Die positiven Dinge:
- Einfacher Einstieg in die Software durch ein kurzes Setup
Neueinsteiger sollten mit dem Setup schnell zurecht finden und auch schnell auf ein Server betreten können. Wenn einige Punkte noch besser erklärt wären, ist das gut so.
- Die Lesezeichen stehen direkt bei Start zur Auswahl
Starten, Klicken, Online. Passt bis hier her.
- Farbwahl für Dunkel und Helles Design ganz gut
Schohnt die Augen bei Nacht
- Abwärtskompatibilität zu TeamSpeak 3
Ohne das, wäre TS5 schon lange deinstalliert.
- Weiterhin Dedicated Server
Ein Glück seit ihr noch vernünftig und stellt Dedicated Server zur Verfügung und schiebt den ganzen Kram nicht in die Wolken.
- Laut Infotexten weiterhin etwas Hirn für Datenschutz
Ist zumindest auf den ersten Blick auf das notwendigste für eine Beta getrimmt. Verbesserungsbedarf besteht aber noch!
- Support für alle gängigen Systeme
Windoof, Linux und Apfel ist unterstützt. Das nennt man schon fast perfekt.
- Globaler Chat
Es ist schön, das man Personen nun schreiben kann, die sich gar nicht auf dem Server befinden. Das sollte man nun ausbauen und auch auf mobile Geräte bringen.
Die Negativen Dinge:
- Einladung in die Beta
Eure Marketing-Abteilung gibt ihr bestes, um ein Stück Softwareschrott unter den Mann zu bringen.
Zuerst eine Anmeldung für eine Beta bereit stellen und dann ein ganzes Jahr alles raus zögern, bis da was verteilt wird.
Nebenbei werden in den (un)Social-Media-Plattformen Keys verbreitet.
Wer sich also brav bei der E-Mail-Geschichte angemeldet hatte, kam sich derb verarscht vor.
Hauptsache Clickbate für ein Stück Software betreiben, was nicht mal im Ansatz fertig ist.
Würde ich so etwas in der Firma machen, hätte man mich direkt fristlos raus geworfen.
Noch ein kleiner Rückblick auf die GamesCom 2019:
Dort hatten ihr auch ein Stand. War zwar schön euch da zu sehen, der Stand war aber auch nutzlos oder?
Das Motto „Wir sind auch da, haben aber nichts dabei“ hätte gepasst.
- Das gesamte Design ist ein kompletter Müllhaufen (und das ist freundlich ausgedrückt)
Die „notwendigsten“ Buttons sind vorhanden, wenn auch komplett deplaziert.
Intuitiv ist die UI absolut nicht gestaltet und mögliche Anpassungsfreiheiten wie in TS3 fehlen.
Die UI sieht Stellenweise überladen aus, auf der anderen Stelle komplett leer.
Die Icons für Funktionen verfehlen ihre Bedeutung teilweise oder sehen einfach nur falsch aus.
Auch die zwei Ansichtsmodi (kompakt und ausgedehnt) sind in meinen Augen einfach unnötig. Kompakt reicht vollkommen aus.
Das Editieren von Channels ist eine Heiden Klickarbeit, bis man an die Punkte dran kommt, die man braucht. Das Editierungsfenster von TS3 ist viel angenehmer.
Die Lesezeichen für Server brauchen auch nicht dauerhaft eingeblendet werden. Es reicht, wenn diese bei Bedarf eingeblendet werden können.
Auch wäre es nicht verkehr, dem Nutzer eine Variation an Farben zur Verfügung zu stellen.
Blau-Lila-Pink-Weiß sind jetzt nicht gerade meine Favorisierten Farben.
Um jemanden zu Kicken / Bannen oder allgemeine Infos zu sehen sind unnötige viele Klicks notwendig und der Aufbau von Auswahlelementen ist nicht intuitiv gestaltet.
Das Umschalten zwischen verschiedenen Chats (vor allem in der kompakten Ansicht) ist ein Krampf. Dauernd verklickt man sich, wenns schnell gehen muss.
Ich habe jetzt schon mit einigen Personen (darunter auch UI-Designer) unterhalten. Die und ich finden das was aktuell abgeliefert wird, extrem Peinlich.
- Einstellungen
Die Einstellungen sind übersichtlich, aber es fehlt noch soooo vieles von TS3.
Was bei mir auch nicht wirklich funktioniert, sind Extras wie die Erkennung von Tastenanschläge oder das entfernen von Hintergrundgeräuschen.
Ich glaub da müsst ihr noch einmal Hand anlegen.
Ebenfalls Fehlen – noch – essentielle Einstellungspunkte von TS3, wie z.B. die Gruppen-Richtlinien.
Die kommen noch, aber fehlen tuts schon ewig.
- Performance und genutzte Softwarepakete
Mittlerweile futtert TS5 mehr RAM als TS3 (gleicher Server, gleiche Anzahl an Nutzer und Channels).
Auf Windows läuft der Client schon sehr stabiel, auf Linux stürzt er hingegen das ein oder andere mal ab.
Sind Bugs, werden sicher gefixt, aber so was in 3-4 Jahren Entwicklungszeit zu sehen ist Peinlich.
Auch die genutzten Tools sind teilweise etwas Bedenklich. Zwar alles schöne Open Source Dinge, aber wenn ich in der Lizenzübersicht auch noch Chromium & Co sehe, hab ich da Datenschutztechnische Bedenken.
(Chromium ist zwar angeblich entgooglet, aber ich traue dem Mist von Google nicht.)
Wie wäre es mal mit Abspecken, oder sind die ganzen Dinge wirklich für ein VoIP-Client notwendig?
Ich glaube nicht.
- Datenschutz
TS3 sendet nichts nach Hause, wenn ich das nicht will. Das ist / war schön.
Bei TS5 gibts nur „Limited“ für Diagnose und Feedback-Daten.
Wo ist der „Halt dein Mund TS“-Button?
So etwas gehört schon in Version 0.0000001 rein, wenn es auf die Menschheit losgelassen wird.
Versteht mich nicht falsch, ich bin froh das TS Datenschutztechnisch gut da steht, aber der „Schutz“ sollte nicht aufgeweicht werden.
- „Gratis“ TeamSpeak-Server
Könnt ihr mir mal sagen, was ihr euch dabei gedacht habt?
Mit dem Umfang eines gratis Servers, kann man mit einer kleinen Gruppe eigentlich absolut nichts anfangen.
Soweit das Angebot bleibt, das man einen kostenlosen Server mit nur maximal 4 Slots ausstatten kann, könnt ihr das Angebot gleich ganz streichen.
Da rennt jeder zu alternativen wie Discord & Co. Oder nutzt Gruppenanrufe in diversen Messenger-Apps für Smartphone & Co.
TeamSpeak wird in der Regel von Personengruppen mit mehr als 4 oder 5 Leuten verwendet.
- Lizenzmodell
Es hat zwar nichts direkt mit dem TS5 Client zu tun, aber euer Lizenzmodell ist einfach nur eins: Ein Witz für private Personen!
Ich selbst hoste ein TS-Server, welcher des öfteren in letzter Zeit an die Kapazitätsgrenze von 32 Slots gekommen ist.
Um mehr Slots zu erhalten, muss man tief in die Tasche greifen.
Ihr habt echt Geldsorgen oder?
Für ein einfachen Voice-Server 50-60€ im Jahr für nur 32 Slots mehr auszugeben, ist einfach Wucher.
Da miete ich mir lieber ein günstigen vServer und installiere eine zweite Instanz.
Firmen die die TS-Server vermieten haben damit wohl kein großes Problem, eine private Person die ein Server für Freunde und Familie betreibt hingegen schon.
- Was fehlt noch?
Mir würde ein Video-Chatt fehlen. Für TS3 hat die Community schon Plugins geschrieben, in TS5 sollte es für das Jahr 2020 direkt implementiert sein.
Die Funktion sollte Optional sein und der Server-Admin kann sie aktivieren/deaktivieren.
Massen-Move-Funktionen, um alle Freunde in ein Channel zu schieben und nicht jeden einzeln.
Wieder ein Webinterfaces oder ein „Admin-Tool“ für eine(n) Server wie damals mit TS2.
Die Admin-Tools der Comunity sind nett und gut und ich bin froh das es sie gibt.
Ja ja Sicherheitstechnisch nicht das beste, aber für Einrichtung und Wartungen einfach super.
Auto-Updater für den Server, damit das Updaten von Hand endlich mal weg fällt.
=> Ich Update mein Kram gerne von Hand, aber ein Updater kann Arbeitabnehmen.
Konvertierung zu Mono-Input für Mics. Manche haben durch ihr ach so tolles Mikrofon und deren DACs das Problem, das der Input zum PC nur auf dem linken Kanal erfolgt. Stellt man auf Stereo-Codecs um, freut sich mein linkes Ohr enorm.
Nennt die Option einfach Mono-DAU-Option oder so. Sie wird freunde finden
Untersützung für Eingabegeräte mit Sondertasten.
Damit auch die extra Macro-Tasten an “Gaming”-Tastaturen direkt genutzt werden können und man damit nicht in der Herstellersoftware irgendwas zusammen basteln muss.
Ich hab eine Razer-Tastatur mit 5 M-Tasten. Die würde ich ganz gerne in TS nutzen können.
Fazit: TS5 ist in meinen Augen aktuell noch eine Bruchbude oder TS3 mit einem neuen Design und weniger Funktionsumfang. Ein Glück gibts noch den TS3 Client und man kann beide gleichzeitig nutzen.
Wenn ihr es schon nicht gebacken bekommt, macht den Kram OpenSource und lasst die Community Hand anlegen. Dann wirds auch mal was.
Mein Tipp: Wenn ihr nicht wollt, das noch mehr Nutzer zu datenschutzunfreundlichen Plattformen wie Discord rennen, gebt mal Gas! Da hilft es auch nicht, als super toller mega Sponsor für irgendwelche ESL-Events da zu stehen und irgendwelchen „Clans“ Server zu sponsorn.
Und der Satz zum Schluss:
Man kann es nicht jedem Recht machen, man kann sich aber bemühen, etwas nicht total gegen die Wand zu fahren.

With this thread I would like to give you my opinion about the current beta of TeamSpeak 5.
I’m trying to reach the developers of course, but maybe I’ll also spread some ideas for the community, who might be able to implement some of them in plugins.
I’ve always been a TS user and want to stay that way in the future, because I don’t know any more pleasant VoIP software than TS. Easy to use and resource saving on the systems.
But some innovations go against the grain for me, so I would like to give my opinion some space here.
Before we start, a small note about the whole text.
Yes, TS5 is in the beta phase. Yes, things can still change. Yeah, bugs happen.
Everyone can have their own opinion and find something good or bad.
But this text is currently my opinion about the software and nothing more.
Yes, in some places the choice of words is a bit harsh, but that simply reflects my opinion better than using a “nice intact world” language.
So if you are upset about my opinion, you should do so. I don’t care.
Also pay attention to the creation date of this post. Some points may be different by now.
(There are very salty people out there who are up to 180 by a little crap )
Spelling mistakes and other things may be kept and eaten.
Okay let’s get started
The positive things:
- Easy access to the software with a short setup
Newcomers should be able to quickly get to grips with the setup and should also be able to access a server quickly. If some points would be explained even better, that’s a good thing.
- The bookmarks are available for selection directly at startup
Start, click, online. Fits up to here.
- Colour choice for dark and light design quite good
Protects the eyes at night
- Backwards compatibility with TeamSpeak 3
Without this, TS5 would have been uninstalled a long time ago.
- Still Dedicated Server
Luckily you are still reasonable and provide Dedicated Servers and don’t push all that stuff into the clouds.
- According to info texts still some brain for privacy
Is at least at first glance trimmed to the most necessary for a beta. But there is still room for improvement!
- Support for all common systems
Windoof, Linux and Apple is supported. This is called almost perfect.
- Global Chat
It is nice that you can now write to people who are not on the server. This should now be extended and also brought to mobile devices.
The negative things
- Invitation to the Beta
Your marketing department is doing its best to get a piece of software junk under the man.
First you have to provide a registration for a beta and then you have to wait a whole year until something is distributed.
Besides, keys are distributed in the (un)social media platforms.
So if you had registered well-behaved for the e-mail story, you felt like a big fool.
The main thing is to run Clickbate for a piece of software that is not even remotely ready.
If I had done something like that in the company, I would have been thrown out without notice.
Another small review of the GamesCom 2019:
You also had a booth there. It was nice to see you there, but the booth was useless, wasn’t it?
The motto “We’re there too, but we didn’t bring anything with us” would have fit.
- The whole design is a complete heap of rubbish (and that’s putting it nicely)
The “most necessary” buttons are available, although they are completely out of place.
Intuitively, the UI is not designed at all and possible customization options like in TS3 are missing.
The UI looks overloaded in places, but completely empty in the other places.
The icons for functions partly miss their meaning or just look wrong.
Also the two view modes (compact and extended) are simply unnecessary in my eyes. Compact is quite sufficient.
Editing channels is a lot of clicking until you get to the points you need. The editing window of TS3 is much more comfortable.
The bookmarks for servers don’t need to be displayed permanently. It is enough if they can be shown when needed.
Also it would not be wrong to provide the user with a variation of colors.
Blue-purple-pink-white are not exactly my favorite colors right now.
To kick / ban someone or to see general information, many unnecessary clicks are necessary and the structure of selection elements is not designed intuitively.
Switching between different chats (especially in the compact view) is a cramp. You are constantly clicking each other when you need to go fast.
I’ve already talked to a few people (including UI designers). They and I find what is currently being delivered extremely embarrassing.
- Settings
The settings are clear, but there is still soooo much of TS3 missing.
What also doesn’t really work for me are extras like keystroke detection or removing background noise.
I think you’ll have to give it another try.
Also missing are - still - essential settings of TS3, such as the group policies.
They are still coming, but they are missing forever.
- Performance and used software packages
Meanwhile TS5 feeds more RAM than TS3 (same server, same number of users and channels).
On Windows the client runs very stable, but on Linux it crashes a few times.
If there are bugs, they will be fixed for sure, but to see something like that in 3-4 years of development time is embarrassing.
Also the used tools are sometimes a bit dubious. All nice open source things, but when I see Chromium & Co in the license overview, I have privacy concerns.
(Chromium is supposedly de-Googled, but I don’t trust the crap from Google).
How about slimming down, or are all these things really necessary for a VoIP client?
I don’t think so.
- Data protection
TS3 won’t send anything home unless I want them to. That’s / was nice.
At TS5 there is only “Limited” for diagnosis and feedback data.
Where’s the “Shut your mouth TS” button?
Something like that belongs in version 0.0000001 when it’s released to mankind.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that TS data protection is in good shape, but the “protection” should not be weakened.
- “Free” TeamSpeak Server
Can you tell me what you were thinking?
With the size of a free server, you can’t really do anything with a small group.
As long as the offer remains that you can equip a free server with only 4 slots, you can cancel the offer completely.
There everyone runs to alternatives like Discord & Co. or uses group calls in various messenger apps for Smartphone & Co.
TeamSpeak is usually used by groups of people with more than 4 or 5 people.
- License model
It has nothing directly to do with the TS5 client, but your licensing model is just one thing: A joke for private persons!
I host a TS server myself, which has often reached the capacity limit of 32 slots lately.
To get more slots, you have to dig deep into your pockets.
You really have money problems, don’t you?
Spending 50-60€ a year for a simple voice server for only 32 more slots is simply usury.
So I prefer to rent a cheap vServer and install a second instance.
Companies that rent TS servers probably don’t have a big problem with that, but a private person that runs a server for friends and family does.
- What is still missing?
I would miss a video chat. The community has already written plugins for TS3, in TS5 it should be implemented directly for the year 2020.
The feature should be optional and the server admin can enable/disable it.
Mass-Move functions to move all friends into one channel and not every single one.
Again a web interface or an “admin tool” for a server(s) like back then with TS2.
The admin tools of the community are nice and good and I’m glad that they exist.
Yes, not the best security-wise, but for setup and maintenance they are just great.
Auto-Updater for the server, so that updating by hand is finally no longer necessary.
=> I like to update my stuff by hand, but an updater can take off work.
Conversion to mono-input for mics. Some people have the problem that the input to the PC is only on the left channel because of their oh so great microphone and their DACs. If you switch to stereo codecs, my left ear is very happy.
Just call the option Mono-DAU-Option or something. It will make friends
Support for input devices with special keys.
So that the extra macro keys on “gaming” keyboards can be used directly and you don’t have to tinker with anything in the manufacturer software.
I have a Razer keyboard with 5 M keys. I would like to be able to use them in TS.
Conclusion: TS5 is in my eyes still a dump or TS3 with a new design and less functionality. Luckily there is still the TS3 client and you can use both at the same time.
If you can’t get it done, do the stuff open source and let the community get involved. Then it will be something.
My hint: If you don’t want more users to run to data protection-unfriendly platforms like Discord, step on it! It doesn’t help to be a super great mega sponsor for some ESL events and to sponsor some “clans” server.
And the sentence at the end:
You can’t please everybody, but you can try not to crash something into the wall.
