Hey everyone, I’ve been asking questions about how the client itself works. and I notice that everything in teamspeak seems to be encrypted (please correct me if im wrong), although there is one thing I don’t quite understand. how is that when I login, everything gets synced? Is the private key stored on TS servers, if so, whats really the point of the encryption if TS can read everything anyways? In messenger for example, you need to get a one time code everytime you login on a different browser to share the private key for decryption since all the chats are E2EE. thank you for answering, and sorry if I’m a little slow.
The private keys for the global chat are stored locally and are not synced with myTS. If someone new joined a Group Chat every other member would share the key with the person.
If however this is a private chat you need to wait until the person is online.
E2EE is not enabled by default, but can be in the context menu. (Note: can not be used in public groups as they are public anyways and it would cause unneeded trouble/traffic.)
that sounds really cool actually, I’m going to do some testing. I really like that idea. what are the encryption protocols used in both voice and text?
That I don’t know and is probably not public knowledge.
if you’re able, could you ask the devs? Just curious.
Unfortunately the dev who would know that is on vacation the next few weeks soo…
That might give you some answers:
