Regarding Matrix network compatibilty

The upcoming release of TS6 has spurred my community’s interest in coming home to TeamSpeak again. We’re already hosting our own Matrix server, and have played around with joining TeamSpeak group chat channels from our own server, which works fine.

However, it seems chat.teamspeak.com is running a very old version of Synapse which does not allow for authenticated media requests. Therefore, images, avatars, channel icons, etc. do not appear when joining rooms externally. Additionally, it seems rooms are still using version 6.

So, my question is - are there plans to make TeamSpeak’s group chat rooms more in line with a modern version of rooms and the Matrix network as a whole?

What’s the score in 2026? The URL above for the Synapse server doesn’t even work anymore.

I run a Matrix server and have done for several years, most people I know and game with use Matrix via the client Element, but Element devs stated on GitHub that adding PTT (push-to-talk) to the Element client is not a priority as they aren’t targeting the gamer demographic with their client (silly reasoning to assume only gamers want PTT, IMO).

With the exodus from Discord, there’s a unique opportunity for TeamSpeak to bridge the gap in terms of Matrix support and making the future of comms an open, interoperable and sensible one.

It’s been a year since my post - I was only reminded of this due to the notification of your response.

There’s been no difference in TeamSpeak’s Matrix servers. Matrix servers have moved on to room v12 after a significant issue with state information on room v10 and below. TeamSpeak has not upgraded their servers to even handle that. I sort of gave up on the prospect of them taking Matrix seriously.

I’ve always been a huge supporter of TeamSpeak. They were the king ~20 years ago, but it seems their comeback is little more than nostalgia wrapped up in unrealized promises. I’ll continue to support them, but I’m disappointed.

They have success on a golden platter with diamonds encrusted on it with the Discord shenanigans, and they’re not grabbing a fork. I sincerely hope they do.

I’ll scream their name from the mountaintops as I did 20-25 years ago if they can just take this opportunity they have and run with it.
