The server groups’ icons are squished together. Not only this, but the icon next to people’s names is squished to the left.
First of all this has nothing to do with the server build / structure but it has to do with the client. - make sure to write your issue in the correct category next time.
Now, so we can see your problem exacty, could you send a screenshot on how they look like?
My first thought says that you have an old client theme and causes this issue.

There actually seems to be some unspecified behavior for non square images.
I just created this test pattern:
and it resulted in this:
As you can see the non sqaure image is stretched to fit.
I think the constraint to use square images got lost when introducing svgs as a possibility.
I do not see this as wrong necessarily but it is definitely not intended.
So as long as this persists you can just add transparent pixels to the image so that it is square.
