TeamSpeak 6 Server - BETA RELEASE v6.0.0-beta2

Just wanted to quickly say that we’re aware of all the feedback coming in and we’re paying close attention. I completely understand the frustration around the 5 slot license limit for the beta. We didn’t mean to disappoint or frustrate anyone, and I want to reassure everyone that your concerns are being heard.

I’ll make sure all of your feedback is passed on for further review. Just a quick reminder to please keep things constructive and respectful. This beta exists so we can gather real-time feedback from our community, learn from it, and improve accordingly based on your needs.

I’ll post more updates as soon as I have more information to share from the team.

Thank you!

Is there a changelog posted somewhere?

grats on releasing it!
it’d be super helpful to know particularly what needs testing or feedback

I’m running on Wayland so screen-share is out anyway, so I feel like the only thing I could give at the moment is ‘does it work?’ and general UX gripes

Nope, only if you have X11.

Thanks for your hard work!
Deployment went without issues using docker.
Just for a initial quick test I tried streaming but couldn’t Capture Audio on Linux of firefox (X11 with pipewire). Windows worked fine. but not really a server issue. It seems there is also a lower framerate when watching the own stream.
As others already pointed out. My friends and I would like to help with testing but with 5 slots I would be forced to exclude some of them. So I’m currently back on ts3

you can also just hack it with obs with the virtual camera

right right I’m aware of all the stuff around screenshare on wayland, I’m really asking what is the dev team looking for in feedback

if it’s UX I have a mountain of gripes but so does everybody else I’m sure
if it’s just a question of whether it runs or not, it does on Arch x64 no problem

Well, Voice chat works perfectly fine, seems pretty stable so far, various quality settings all seem to work as intended and all stable. P2P screen sharing also working as intended.

As others have mentioned, the 5 slot limit is too low if that’s your plan to release with such a low limit, you might as well give up now.

Also, this is a big one if you ever want to get users back from Discord (and trust me, users really do want to get off Discord as the enshittification intensifies) you need to make channel chats persistent, stored on the server, and some basic permissions around it, users can delete their own messages, but only channel admins can delete any message for example.

Also, when you attach files, they’re size limited and they don’t seem to upload to the server, let us host attachments and decide on size limits.

Also, why are icons still limited to 8kb? Why do I still need to host the banner image somewhere?

Listen, I’m rooting for you guys, but if you want to take a bite out of Discord, you need to get geeks who host servers for you interested and want to get their friends involved, once word spreads that TeamSpeak is actually doing the main bits of Discord (persistent chats, easy attachment uploads, screen sharing is at least working P2P) you’ll start to get interest from paying parties.

One last thing, you’ve asked us to test but there’s practically nothing to test here, other than voice quality / latency, which is difficult with only 5 slots.

Can you tell us what you would like us to test?

Edit: Server running fine on TrueNAS 25.04.1 as a custom app (docker).

As of now, TS6’s server functionalities are still incomplete. The current TS6 self-hosted server is actually more like a version of TS3 with an added P2P screen sharing button, where only the voice function truly achieves local self-hosting. This is particularly evident in regions where the network is blocked — apart from voice, chat channels and screen sharing are almost unusable, even worse than the TS3 server, which at least allows both voice and chat channels to be used.

The comments in this thread are just so thoughtless… This release is great, screen share just worked flawlessly for us! And so fast! We went back to the old version for now but we are so excited for more slots to come, keep up the great work!

Bro please get this updated to at least the 32 slots and include the ability to just directly upload icons/banners and such like with Discord. Give us some selling points to actually bring people over from Discord to here. In it’s current state the product is not looking good. I’ve been a long time Teamspeak user who wants to come back so badly and support you guys…

icons and banners can be uploaded to the server as usual

Please TS devs, listen to the people in this thread.
People here are gunuinly caring about Teamspeak and are interested in its existence, like me who is hosting a comunity licensed TS3 server now for an eternity.

But you completely lost me reading the comments about the 5 people limit.
You need the geeks spinning up these servers, try it and spread the word.
Instead you limit it to a degree so that nobody is going to run this in the first place.

You need to understand that with an attitude like that you will really struggle more than necessary to regain any market share and also not creating the necessary sympathy with the target group to push this product forward.

We are in dire need of a Discord alternative.
Play your strenghts by enabling your current core audience instead of neglecting them.
You can still play the enshittification game once youre succesful again.

Cool that you were able to release the first TS6 beta! But I will also wait for 32 slots before testing it. Otherwise we need to split up between two servers…

Does anyone know if the SRV records changed with the new server files ?

actually you can increase the icon size with max_icon_filesize

was also possible in ts3 before…

probably most file size issue u have are just a group-policy setting

in the docker container changing the Voice port doesnt work, it always uses the defaultport 9987. also the ts6 client cant connect to other ports than 9987, thats a bug i found so far

it also would be nice to have more Documentation on the docker Environment Variables like for the binary variables, but thats not something urgent in my opinion

Arm64 binary and docker image would be sweet
