Teamspeak preventing Standby Mode?

Hi,

i noticed recently, that my windows isn’t going into standby mode, even when i’m going away for an hour. Neither the monitor not the pc is turning into standby. So i asked ChatGPT for help and got the idea to use the command powercfg /requests. It displays all sources that prevent standby. The answer was this:

SYSTEM:
[DRIVER] Sound Blaster Z (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_1102&DEV_0011&SUBSYS_11020027&REV_1009\5&1925c72e&0&0101)
Audio Stream is currently in use

So i looked under Soundmixer to see which programs are currently in use. It’s teamspeak and windows system sounds. I turned off Teamspeak and powercfg is now showing:

SYSTEM:
None.

Standby now works perfectly.

This seems to be a bug to me. Or is there a way to prevent this behavior?

Thanks for you help in advance!

Build Date:

Chromium Version:
130.0.6723.117

TeamSpeak client is preventing Windows 11 (24H2 26120.5733) from turning off monitors according to power settings.

Running powercfg /requests shows audio driver being in use:

powercfg /requests
DISPLAY:
None.

SYSTEM:
[DRIVER] High Definition Audio Device (HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_1220&SUBSYS_18492223&REV_1001\4&5f153c&0&0001)
An audio stream is currently in use.

AWAYMODE:
None.

EXECUTION:
None.

PERFBOOST:
None.

ACTIVELOCKSCREEN:
None.

I tried shutting down TeamSpeak and monitors turned off as expected.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Windows Settings
  2. System
  3. Power
  4. Power & sleep button controls
  5. Set power button to turn off display
  6. Have TS open
  7. Turn off monitors with computer power button as configured
  8. Notice monitors turning back on after brief delay.
  9. Exit TeamSpeak
  10. Notice monitors turning off and remaining off until wakened.

This has not always been an issue with the client, as I’ve been able to leave TS running and walk away and come back to monitors being off.

UPDATE: I might have found a fix

This is not a TeamSpeak issue, but TeamSpeak as merely the application that highlighted the issue.

Here is what solved it for me:
Since it was an audio driver that caused issues with the screens not turning off according to power settings, I went and had a look at the settings for the audio device.

I opened the list of my audio devices, Playback in my case.
I selected the target device, opened Properties → Advanced

I had Exclusive mode enabled.

I turned Exclusive mode off and then restarted TS, to ensure all settings were reset.

After pressing the power button to turn the monitors off, they now stayed off.
The audio device is still present when running powercfg /requests but at least my monitors turn off.

Hey, I’ve got an issue since upgrading to Windows 11. I set my monitors to turn off after a few minutes of idle time, but they no longer do so when TeamSpeak is open (tried both TS3 and TS6).

I already disabled the exclusive audio mode in Windows sound settings, but the problem persists. When TeamSpeak is closed, the monitors turn off as expected.

Has anyone experienced this and found a fix?

@Gitarre3 @ImXelios Have you tried the steps that are mentioned in the posts above?

Yes, I’ve already tried all of that. As soon as TeamSpeak is open, there’s a corresponding entry under “System” when I run the powercfg /requests command. Disabling the exclusive mode didn’t help either. Other applications, like Nvidia Shadowplay, also create an entry in the powercfg /requests command. However, in those cases, the monitors still turn off as expected. So it seems to be something specific to TeamSpeak.

@LeonMarcelHD Do you have any other ideas, or could this be forwarded to the dev team? It’d be great if a solution could be found, because right now it’s really annoying.

I’ve forwarded this to our QA to further investigate.

@LeonMarcelHD Chipping in here as I started the thread.

Disabling exclusive mode seems to have been a red herring.

My current workaround is to run a terminal as administrator. When the terminal window is focused, I can turn off monitors and they will stay off.

Chipping in again as I had another look at this issue:
In the Win11 task manager, I noticed that only one of the processes were marked with “Efficiency Mode”.

You can toggle this mode by right-clicking each individual process.

I found that by enabling this mode for all TeamSpeak processes, I could now turn off my monitors as expected.

This flag does NOT persist across sessions, so if you restart TeamSpeak or your computer, you will need to set this flag again.

I’ve not found a way to enable this mode permanently for TeamSpeak, might be a task for the devs?

Nevermind, another red herring.
I had task manager open when turning off the screens and having enabled efficiency mode.

So essentially, anything that runs in admin mode having focus will let my screens be off.

Unfortunately, I cannot confirm this, as it did not work for me.

Hey @LeonMarcelHD,
just wondering if you have any news for us? Do you think we might see an update or at least a temporary workaround sometime soon?

No not yet. I wouldn’t expect an update on this soon, since it is a low priority issue, compared to our other projects like server sided screen share.
