You say that you want to set a short nickname. Have you also tried a longer one and received the same error message?
Is it your own server, or is it hosted by a provider? It’s important that the ServerQuery port 10011 is open so that myTeamSpeak can verify the connection.
Please check if you have entered the correct IP address along with the port or try using a domain instead.
