TS6 BETA | Community Update & Insights

Thanks for the update <3

Let announcements be for the announcements
But such a text with a status is awesome and shows a bit more of what you have struggles with (which is totally normal in developing software)

All these reasons for why we are at the current state and that some is come a long way

Perfect example of a “simple” update and hopefully others are seeing this as well <3

Thanks for the update. But then you should rethink your tactics with X/Twitter. Joking about Discord, but TeamSpeak only exists because of your die-hard fans.

Thank you for the update. I love seeing this, even if its not the news we are hoping for, it still keeps us in the loop. Keep up the hard work

I had no idea about the alpha testers getting their hands on hardware acceleration, thats definitely something we should have heard about in April but thank you for updating us!

Is there known will be there removed limitation of 5MB attachments (media) in TS6 files. Will be files uploaded to local server or will it stay that all media is uploaded to your servers?

@piksna Not to my knowledge, no. This is about the TeamSpeak 6 Server, not our chat service.

Thanks for feedback, I thought that it will be “homebase”, that all services will be self hosted including chat, voice, screenshare etc.

The inability to manage client-specific permissions in a Community while a user is offline is unfortunate. If we can add them, we should be able to remove them regardless of whether the user is online. I’ve had old TS3 servers vandalized in the past this way, admittedly my fault.

I haven’t been able to find much on this. A bit of a security concern. When can we expect to be able to manage permissions for offline users in Communities?

Also, longtime fan here, and very appreciative of the recent update. Keep up the good work.

Edit: Thank you I’mScheinox for the reply!! It is possible to see this by right-clicking the server banner in the top-left and then accessing the Client List.

Either I misunderstand your point, but you can already edit permissions of offline users.
You go to the client list and search for your user and edit the permissions.

Thank you for the update and perfectly understand you have a small team.
The problem I see is perception is being skewed as there are promises being missed (even to paying members) and on the flip side you have your public pages on twitter being sarcastic and attacking the competitors, which when you have a product that competes is all fine and dandy, but in this current state may do more harm than good.

In regards of team size, would it be worth while setting up a close testing group for the server software. I have limited knowledge in C++ but good in a few other languages, however my entire job revolves around devops so i am more than happy to spend a good few hours a week to help.
Alot of us are itching to get away from other services, so even if it means spending some of our own time (and i can vouch alot of us probably would as we are nerds) to help with testing and breaking software then so be it (even in a mostly non functional state).
Hell you could do some form of partial open sourcing or nda access just so you can get extra reviews or help on the codebase

I agree with the comment.
I work in the field of information security and have experience in software testing and writing reports.

I could devote 2-3 hours a week to software testing and writing quality reports.

Kind of ironic how a communication service is bad a communication. :see_no_evil:

That aside, you acknowledge there’s issues due to being a small team. So who decided that putting up a big campaign claiming to be the discord killer with your next release was a good idea, when things weren’t even half finished?

On the subject that you do listen and read posts, I sincerely doubt that. There’s been an issue with the codec producing a “pop” sound ever since the release of 3.6.0 and onward. Having many still on 3.5.6 because that version doesn’t produce that.
For 2 years already this has been an issue that is obviously being ignored: 3.6.0 – Sound peaking problem
None of you have participated in that topic, actively trying to find what’s causing that for almost 2 years now.
So you claim you do listen and read every comment but this proofs the opposite.

On the subject of holding the server files, I also think it’s a bad excuse to hold it back just because of a change in the file transfer system. You’re hoping that the longer you delay, the more people will cave for your new subscription service. There’s NO reason to hold back the release of the server files just because a single (not important) feature is being changed. Why can’t that be done with an update? Seems rather odd…

When I met you guys on Gamescom in 2018 everyone seemed such a nice bunch and down to earth, but it feels like that has been lost in the pursuit of trying to beat Discord.
Don’t try to beat them, don’t try to be like them. Stand out on your own thing. The people still using TS will remain and support you no matter what, right now you’re alienating these loyal fans…

Straight from the heart of a 23 year user…

Very good insight @SYOX! :handshake: As someone who has been using TeamSpeak for over a decade and has been an alpha tester myself, I can really relate to this post.

However, I have a request:
Please hire new employees and make it clear that TeamSpeak is looking for reinforcement. Only this way can great ideas truly be implemented.

I highly appreciate this company, but it can only grow again in the long term with a larger team.

We know many of you are eager to get your hands on the server and start self-hosting, but the server files are not ready yet. We’re holding internal discussions about the possibility of releasing an early access or beta version. However, we want to be transparent about the current challenges the server is facing as we work on these improvements. We appreciate your patience and support.

Any news on the self-hosted option. I appreciate TS is seeking to commercialise with “community servers” as a service offering. But it’s been six months and it feels we’re no closer. At this point I’d pay to licence a self hosted option.

I have a little update regarding the server files:

We’ve had some great discussions earlier this week about beta testing for the TeamSpeak 6 Server. I’m happy to say that, as of right now, the plan is to move ahead with releasing the TeamSpeak 6 Server files in a beta state to gather a wide range of feedback. I know the first thing everyone is going to ask for is a timeframe. All I can say right now is that I’m hoping to have more news to share with you all within the next two weeks.

More details will follow, and we will, of course, make an announcement post as soon as they are finalized and ready for beta release.
