I’ve been running my TS3 server for over 10 years now without problems. Just recently I decided to retire my Cisco router and go to a Unifi Dream Machine Pro SE unit. (also know as UDM SE by the fan boys).
Problem: It blocks access to my TeamSpeak 3 server. This happens both internally and externally.
I know the first FAQ you might ask if I got all the port mapping settings done. I’ve double checked and cannot find any problems there.
Also, I can attempt to reach the server directly via it’s local VLAN IP address with both machines on the same switch and the UDM still blocks connection.
The only way I can restore connection is to return to my old Cisco router and reset the Unifi Pro Max switch. Afterwords all works fine.
Some feedback on the Unifi’s website remarks that the UDM’s security blocking features are most likely at fault. Knowing this I turned as much stuff off that the user UI would allow with still no results.
Any one else have experience with this and a solution?
UDM owner here. It sounds like you need to open ports 9987 and 30033 for TS voice & data xsfer for outbound connections. These ports are also the same across TS server versions, meaning the functionality will persist if you migrate from TS3 to TS6.
Go to the UDM management panel → Settings (sidebar, bottom left) → Sites Manager → your site → Settings → Network → Port Forwarding.
Thank you for the reply. Yes, I have the 3 above mentioned ports mapped to the local LAN IP for my server (just like the Cisco router I want to replace that works fine). I also checked that UPnP was disabled as the Unifi support team suggested that might be an issue if enabled.
So far, no luck. It’s as if some hidden firewall filter of policy is sniffing out something it doesn’t like and blocking my TS server within a minute of connection (It will work internally for a minute before kicking my client).
I’ve also played with disabling what limited end-user options are in the content filtering section but again no luck.
I have a ticket pending with Unifi that has been escalated, which means I might be waiting for awhile……..
Whatever the case I love the new Unifi gear’s performance and cosmetics, but only if I can solve this problem. If not, then I keep the UCI Modem and Pro Max 24 Switch and use a $99 2.5Gbit TP-Link router which (surprise) also works. For the USA market at least the Chinese are minimalist on their router’s firewalls ;)
Apologies for delayed response. I was hoping I could provide additional, concrete support with this post but alas that’s not the case.
What I can say though, is that after thinking back on this, I vaguely remember having the same port forwarding issues when I first installed the UDM in 2022.
I don’t remember much of the details, and silly me 2022 didn’t document anything. One thing I do recall is having to go into Unifi’s “legacy UI” to do some - if not all - of the port forwarding. That’s not to say that port forwarding wasn’t a thing in their current “new” UI, but something in the back of my head tells me I had to use the legacy settings to get things working.
Have you done any sort of network-related tests to troubleshoot connectivity both within your LAN and external to WAN? (I’m not a network expert on any front BUT I figured it was worth asking.)
That said, if I find anything else I will report back.
As it fails even when connecting directly to the server local VLAN IP, I would suggest to look beyond port forwarding. That usually points to a local firewall rule, VLAN isolation, or one of the UDM security features such as traffic tules, ids, or device Isolation which is blocking the traffic. You can also temporarily put both devices on the same LAN without VLAN restrictions and disable threat Management to see if the connection works. If it does, you can narrow down which uniFi rule is causing it.
