Can't upload icons due too insufficient i_max_icon_filesize

I just setup a new server with Pangolin as my reverse proxy. I made sure to allow and forward ports 9987 and 30033 on the firewall and the pangolin container. I also made sure to setup SRV records for server.

I can upload files to the chat easily, but whenever I try to upload server icons it just does nothing and it doesn’t show any activity or anything.

Please advise.

EDIT: I am stupid, I needed to set the icon upload size and permissions

You aren’t stupid, it took me a while, too to figure this out. For everyone looking for the solution: right-click your server, click on permissions, edit the Server Admin permissions and use the search field to search for “icon” and there you can increase the 8KB (8192) limit which is really small for PNGs etc.

Hi,

When trying to upload a server icon to the app on a self-hosted instance, I see it requests a PJP format for icons, but despite trying PJP, PNG, JPG, WEBP, and other formats at the size I’ve set (64x64, permission set in bytes), I cannot for the life of me get ANY icon to come up.

Is there a set of recommended settings for icon size, image format, color depth, size for it to work? This has felt incredibly finnicky in a way I’m having a hard time using. Thank you!

Make sure that the permission i_max_icon_filesize for the admin group is in best case set to -1.

I just ran into this same issue. It seems like the upload silently fails if the icon is not the correct dimensions. There is no dialog or prompt to explain why the upload has failed, it actually appears to be successful. No errors in the server logs for this either.

Please check this permission for the Server Admin Group:

Thank you! This absolutely worked, but in the future there should be some kind of error message to explain this.

Yep, I’ll note that down and forward it.

Hello Teamspeak,

I bought monthly Community Server and i can`t upload my *.png (Icons) to the Community Server.
What can i do?

make sure your using the right file size when uploading icons.

You can increase filesize within your permissions (in bytes):

if you exceeding the value the upload doesnt work.

Ok. It seems that i haven´t the permission to. But i have owner rights.

if you dont have the permission the increase the file size, then maybe on the community’s it’s not possible to change that (i don’t know exactly cause I self host).

In this case youre limited to the default value which is 8192 Byte = 8 KB

thx for help i will wrote a email to the support!

You’ll need to add yourself to the Server Admin Group and modify it there. You can’t modify the Owner group as a protection to not mess up the configuration.
