myTeamSpeak Update | 2FA, GDPR, OAuth, Account Deletion

:waving_hand: HEY EVERYONE!

This time, we’ve got an amazing update for myTeamSpeak! The new myTS Update is one of our most important account-focused updates yet, introducing Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) to keep your account more secure than ever. Alongside this, we’ve added new options under the myTeamSpeak Account Settings that make it easier to manage your data and account.

Head over to myTS here: myTeamSpeak | My Account

:locked_with_key: TWO-FACTOR AUTHENTICATION (2FA)

You can now secure your myTeamSpeak account with Two-Factor Authentication. Once enabled, you’ll add an extra layer of protection to your account, ensuring that only you can access it if your password falls into the wrong hands. Your tokens are generated using a standard authenticator app, keeping setup simple and secure.

Please note that 2FA is not supported on TeamSpeak 3 or the TeamSpeak Mobile App, so if you regularly use those, we recommend not enabling 2FA for now.

:page_facing_up: MANAGE YOUR DATA (GDPR)

We’ve made it easier to get access to your personal information. With this update, you can download your user data directly from myTeamSpeak. This ensures you always have full visibility over the information linked to your TeamSpeak account.

:globe_with_meridians: OAUTH SUPPORT FOR MYTEAMSPEAK

We’re introducing OAuth for myTeamSpeak, replacing the previous single sign-on system with a more modern and transparent authentication flow. When logging into services like the Community Forum, you’ll now be redirected to myTeamSpeak, where you’ll receive an overview of what you’re signing in to, whether it’s an Official TeamSpeak Service, and details about login location and device Information. You’ll also see exactly what data the service is requesting and can choose to approve or deny access before continuing. This provides a clearer and safer sign-in experience across all TeamSpeak Services.

:gear: MANAGE YOUR ACCOUNT

If you ever decide to leave for good :smiling_face_with_tear:, you can now do so directly through myTeamSpeak. Under Manage Account, you can delete your account yourself without needing to contact our team or go through a manual process.

When you choose to delete your account, it will be marked for deletion and permanently removed after a 30-day grace period. If you change your mind during that time, you can simply cancel the deletion and keep your account. This gives you full control while still leaving room for second thoughts… (maybe you’ll change your mind and stay :crossed_fingers:)

:soon_arrow: WHAT’S NEXT?

The next Client Update is currently being finalized and prepared for beta release. It will be called the “Foundation I” Update and will deliver major performance improvements with significantly reduced memory usage, introduce true P2P streaming with single-encoding, add drag-and-drop support for activities in the sidebar, and much more that we’ll cover in the release announcement.

The upcoming update will also bring fully functional streaming on Wayland Linux, with support for Hyprland and GNOME Portals. Other environments may work as well, but these are the ones we’ve tested so far.

See you soon! :saluting_face:

This is AWESOME! I love being able to add 2FA to every service I can (like seriously, it’s more secure).

Is there a backup codes option for 2FA in case we lose our 2FA device?

Finally! :sports_medal:

Not available at the moment, but definitely something we would like to add as soon as possible!

Is the OAUTH support only for TeamSpeak services, or can it also be added to custom websites so that you could, for example, have a “Sign in with myTeamSpeak” option like “Sign in with Google”, “Facebook”, or “Apple”?

For now, OAuth is only available for TeamSpeak Services. In the future, that’s definitely possible for selected services, partners, or other platforms.

It would be pretty cool if you could add that to your own website for example, in my case, since we’re mostly a TeamSpeak community, having such a login button would be both cool and practical.

Sound awesome!
I can’t wait to try out the upcoming update, as I have yet to move from TeamSpeak 3 Server as I wanted to see some progress and improved functionality

Will TeamSpeak 3-Client users be able to join the TeamSpeak 5 Self-Hosted Server?
(I do not expect it to work forever, but if it does for now would be nice to know - ofc. TS5 specific functions does not work)

Great to hear that you made security improvements. Once 2FA will be available in mobile app, this will be great combo and most of people will probably activate it. :blush:

What’s ETA for client update, most of us are waiting this so hard.

TS5 is now called TS6.

SYOX, do you all plan to add support to the TS Chat app? It’s been over 2.5 years since the last update.

Probably wont be TS chat, it needs to be fully reworked from 2FA, video, screenshare … i just hope that its high on priority list.

Awesome! Already set up my 2FA :slight_smile:
Can we self host ts6? and how? i havets3 currently

I could be find with keeping TS Chat as Chat, I don’t need video chat on the phone and it’s nice to just keep up with chat in a couple groups when I can’t be on TS.

Yes, you can self host, I think it’s limited to the 32 slots right now, not looked into looking for updated licenses for TS6 server yet. I finally got the time to get the server build that I’ve been wanting to host it on last weekend and got TS6 server installed today.

Thank you for the update. We are looking forward to the release of the new client version as soon as possible

Just enabled 2FA on my myTS account. Heads up that confirmation page for activating 2FA could be bugged or something, as it was for me. 2FA did get enabled despite the error message and I logged in with no issues using 2FA afterwards.

Can’t wait for the next client update. As I’m actually interested in buying a server through one of your Community offerings, I’m confused on this new addition:

Does this mean streaming will still be client-side, yet it won’t have the performance and network penalty of re-encoding the stream to every spectator at a time ?

Additionally:

No way KDE would have trouble, right ? :face_holding_back_tears:

For the moment your client will encode the stream once, but send the data out to each viewer directly. So you do get the network penalty, but not the computational one. There are plans for the future to implement screen sharing over the server, so you will only need to send the data out once.

It was extensively tested with the Hyprland and Gnome portals but it should work with all desktop portals that implement the wayland screencast protocol. Currently those are:
* xdg-desktop-portal-cosmic
* xdg-desktop-portal-gnome
* xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland
* xdg-desktop-portal-kde
* xdg-desktop-portal-liri-git
* xdg-desktop-portal-wlr

I see, thank you for explaining.

This brings me to a new question though. It’s perhaps too early to conclude, but can we assume that Community rental options will include the server-side streaming feature when it gets implemented ? I ask because I presume once that option gets added it’ll add a lot of bandwidth usage on the Community servers. So I just want to make sure it won’t be that, for example, prices will change accordingly, or the server-side feature won’t be added to Communities in general.

It is still too early to comment on this. As already mentioned in another thread, this will be another big project that requires its own research and development time.

We will provide further information as soon as details have been finalized on our side.
