Packet Loss on Linux

I connected via TS6 to a Server running on a VPS. I can connect to it, watch streams and talk to people and I can understand them without issues. They however hear me very robotic, sounding like I have a bad internet connection, which is not the case. I can use voicechats on discord without issues and trying to use TS6 on Windows on the same network does not cause this outbound Packet loss. Disabling my Firewall temporarily or using a VPN didn’t fix this either. When hosting the TS6 Server on that same machine, the Packet loss also doesn’t happen. When hosting a TS6 Server within the local network on a seperate machine, the packet loss also doesn’t happen.

Does your client also report that you are having a packet loss?

Could you please provide a fresh client log (In this case we only need the ts5client_...log)?

Here is the log file with the reproduced packet loss and censored Server IP.

I noticed that I can connect to Teamspeaks official communities without issues of packet loss, but with the self hosted Server it keeps getting more and more outgoing Packet loss from 30-50%. I can hear other people just fine, they can’t hear me well though.

The logs itself are looking good.

Have you had this issue from the beginning or was it working fine at one point in time before?

Have you done a MTR trace back to see where the packetloss appears?

I am new to Teamspeak and this is my first experience, so I’ve had this from the get go.
I just tried using mtr to test the traceroute and there I also have packet loss up to 98%. I don’t know how mtr works and what it shows. I also can’t really show it because it’s a bunch of personal info in there.

Okay, resulting from this it looks like that some server along the way towards the VPS is dropping the packets.

I would suggest that you reach out to the VPS hoster and ask them for advise.

I’m currently trying to find out how mtr works exactly and I would deny that it could be the VPS, but I might be wrong, I’m not the expert here.

From what I can see the packet loss occurs at

  1. _gateway Loss 98.7% Snt 751

All hops from there have no to minimal (sub 1%) Packet Loss. I can reach the same Server from a different system using Windows, but on my Linux machine I have constant packet drops as long as I’m on that VPS hosted Server.
I have admin privileges on my network and PC, so I can try some things, though I have cgnat, which doesn’t allow me to forward ports on IPv4 connections.

Hmm, so if the gateway (your router) shows packet loss in MTR, it could indicate a problem with your router, its connection to your internet service provider, or even a congested network path

Is there anything differently configured in your router for both machines?

Have you tried a different Ethernet cable?

Both Systems are connected via Ethernet and have no Ports forwarded. They also don’t have any special firewall settings. Both systems also have a WiFi connection, and both of them had the same outcome as they do with LAN, so the Linux system still experiences Packet Loss, while the Windows system doesn’t. As mentioned, I also ran this with a VPN, which also didn’t fix it on the Linux system (although that wouldn’t fix network congestion, but why can I connect from my Windows system without issues and why not on Linux?). I strongly believe that this has to do with outgoing connections from my system, not from the router or the general local network. But I don’t know where to start.

I just tried an mtr on the windows machine and that machine has the same Packet Loss like my Linux system, but it doesn’t have Packet Loss issues when using Teamspeak, which makes this much more confusing to me.

I’m taking that back. The packet loss does not happen on there. I misread the Data.
I tried doing an mtr with the VPN on now and now I have a 99.5% packet loss on hop 2, which is my VPN.

I’m nothing else than confused.
