They just tell you they don’t have any information they can give you because the “Server Files” for self hosting are not yet completely finished and documented probably and you were asking about the possibility to upgrade from TS3 to the TS6 Server so the answer is relying on the TS6 “Server files” being at least nearly ready and documented on how to do it.
I would disagree with you on that the Setup for the TS6 Server in its full is just way more complicated than the TS3 Server setup so they will have to figure out an easy way for the User to do it before they release it. If they don’t it will end in a mess for not so very tech savvy users.
I downloaded the new client and tested it. TBH: I like it. You can see the perspective and you can feel the drive in the chat. Yes, I have some criticism and lots of comments, but I’ll keep them to myself until the first version jump.
Besides, I still don’t understand the fuss about nothing here in the forum.
it’s about beta software. It is neither final nor bug-free. It doesn’t have to include documentation and it doesn’t have to be fully available.
the general availability (of all features) has not been announced even once.
the payment model via communities is available and represents their future concept of monetization.
that self-hosting will be available has already been announced (!)
the TS6 client is available and can be used with the appropriate restrictions. Features such as screen sharing are possible, both on public TS6 servers and own communities.
once again: it is still beta software. Yes, I wish the sharp edges were a bit more polished and that all parts (client AND documentation AND server) were already available, but that’s not the case. For better or worse, we have to live with it. You didn’t pay for it, so you can’t expect it.
And even IF they realized very late in the process that the TS6 server is too buggy for a release - see point 1.
What I find an acceptable criticism: The communication could have been and could be better. I know that there are people working on the social channels and busy trying to cope with the masses of messages. But this could have been planned and managed better in advance. But the same applies here: it is what it is and so we have to be patient.
I’m sorry but I don’t agree with you, I think that with the new update they released, most of the server files should be ready at this stage and the answer to my question could have been easily given, yes or no.
The answer they gave gives the impression that they don’t know exactly how they will shape the server part and that it will take a long time.
I’m writing to express my deep disappointment with the current state of TeamSpeak’s support and communication. It’s frustrating to see official responses being actively posted on X (Twitter) while the actual community concerns seem to be ignored. It feels like there’s no real engagement, no effort to address issues, and no commitment to transparency.
There are persistent problems that remain unfixed, yet there’s little to no communication from your side about progress, priorities, or future updates. The lack of information on critical aspects like mobile apps and server improvements is concerning. If you can’t even release fine-tuned server files, how can we expect a solid mobile app release anytime soon? The silence is deafening.
Right now, I honestly don’t see a compelling reason to use TeamSpeak. Discord is simply doing it better—it offers superior voice quality, mobile functionality, and even better streaming options. The inability to self-host there is a downside, but at least they’re actively innovating and engaging with their users. Meanwhile, TeamSpeak feels stagnant.
I truly hope that things change for the better because I used to appreciate what TeamSpeak offered. But without proper communication, improvements, and clear roadmaps, it’s hard to justify sticking around. Please, wake up and start listening to your community before it’s too late.
I’m glad to see that the development of TeamSpeak is continuing after more than a year, but unfortunately not everything is for the better. The displeasure of many users is justified. We must be patient.
This argument doesn’t hold when considering that TeamSpeak 5 hasn’t left the beta since 2019. Now with rounded elements, unnecessary spacing in the channel tree and screenshare it will be renamed to TeamSpeak 6 and the beta start again?
Further development (including screenshare, mobile app, change username) has always been a problem. Features are announced but nothing happens.
You can see in 2. how long it takes for an announcement to become reality. I think the reason is to maximize revenue generation, because the server files exist and are used for paying customers.
Oh, don’t get me wrong. As I noted, I really dislike the communication strategy by TeamSpeak. We just have to accept it (but we’re still free to criticize it).
Okay. But my statement still stands: It’s beta software. Whether it takes 2 months or 10 years to leave that status doesn’t matter. “Beta” is the label they give the software to express that it has not yet reached final, public availability.
Yes. But announcing features (or the way to get there) is different from announcing a release date. “The next version will include screen sharing” is different from ‘From 2025-03-01 the next version of TS6 Server 1.0 will be available including screen sharing’ (made up dates!).
I don’t want to defend Teamspeak. I just want to create understanding for the process in organizations. They are still all human beings who are allowed to make mistakes. There are people who take care of the social/community channels, and they don’t always get 100% of all information directly internally, or they have to ask first. There are time zones in the world and you won’t always get an answer to questions within 10 minutes 24/7. There are decision paths, decisions and people like software architects who throw decisions overboard and redesign things if they suck. The problem is not that you do it, but how you deal with such things and communicate them. And I’m right there with you: there’s a lack of transparent communication.
EDIT: Okay. Looking back, I sound like I work there.
Honestly, I don’t! (even if I would be willing to temporarily offer you my technical and organizational skills as a solution architect @teamspeak )
Hello,
TS6 looks awesome! The multi-source screenshare feature blew me away. It would be great if you could pop out a singe source into a new window imo.
I got a question regarding the chat with one person or a group chat, especially offline chat. It seems like the messages are send to an external server right now. Will offline chat be handled by a self-hosted TS6 server in the future or will it still be send to an external server?
Just wanted to point out to the devs that 6.0.0-beta2 is already out, but there’s no announcement on its changes/release on the forum, and there is no changelog for it in the app either. 6.0.0-beta1 was the last to do this.
As you said, there will be server files for self hosting.
Are you planning to create Docker images accordingly ?
Would be veeeery awesome as i currently use TS3 dockerized with the official v3 image
Is it so difficult to give answer? Looks like they answer only communities related answers, where they get money. I’m so disappointed with support, 0 impact only empty promises.
Their strategy must be giving all energy in X memes, how can they simply ignore all these questions, really unprofessional and immature… If they can’t release server files which are in fine-tunning, when will we get new mobile apps 2028?
yeah no kidding, wanted to host the server ourselves. if we could get an ETA that would mean the world. It’s okay if it’s going to be awhile, but they need to communicate that to us.
