Interesting that the alpha is going so well, but not a single update is worth moving to the beta branch.

It is going well yes but as Syox has mentioned several times, there are still problems with Mac OS, among other things. Hardware acceleration is also not something that can be released piece by piece; it is a large, complex construction.
