How do I get a new recovery key? // My Badges are not shown in client // Badges don't work

Before you start, please read this guide carefully, as it contains important information that you should be aware of before performing any actions!

Why are you being asked for a Recovery Key?

First off you did not just change your password. You did reset the password and this is why you need the recovery key. This would not be required with a simple password change.

  • a password change keeps all of your data untouched because you can remember your old password and therefore prove that it is your account.

  • a password reset breaks the encryption and therefore requires your Recovery Key.

What is a Fallback?

A Fallback resets your account’s encryption, allowing you to access the account again, but deleting all encrypted and synchronised data stored on myTeamSpeak.

What you need to do now.

You should apply your latest Recovery Key by following either the guide for TS3 or TS6. This will restore all synced items (Bookmarks, Identities and Hotkeys) and allow you to use Badges again.

To get a new Recovery Key, you’ll need to perform a Fallback!
We do not know the Recovery Key as it was only shown to you when it was generated in the Client.

If you no longer have your Recovery Key, then you can follow these steps to backup data before performing a Fallback.

Do you have a Client that still has your Bookmarks and Identity? Then you can try this method.

Following how to can be done on any TS3 client (PC, Android or iOS)

:warning: Run the Client without a connection to the internet!

  • Now drag & drop all your Bookmarks, Identities etc. to the local area (can also be done via right-click on items).
  • Now connect to the internet again and login with your new password or do the Fallback.
  • Now you can put them back into synchronized area.
  • This time make sure you have stored your recovery key!

You can generate a new Recovery Key under SettingsOptionsmyTeamSpeak

Why is my data lost? I never wanted a Recovery Key!

When you created your account, you acknowledged that you had saved the Recovery Key and that, if it was lost, your data would be reset!

Even before resetting your password, you ticked the box on the myTS website to confirm that you still have the key. If you did not have it, your data would be deleted. This ensures that your data stays with you and is not compromised by third parties who gain access to your account.

How to use the Recovery Key / how to perform a Fallback in TeamSpeak 3

Go to the bottom right of the client and click on the explanation mark, there you’ll find the options to either restore your content with the recovery key or you can perform a Fallback there.

Always store your Recovery Key in a secure place.

How to use the Recovery Key / how to perform a Fallback in TeamSpeak 6

In TeamSpeak 6, this dialogue box will pop up directly as soon as you perform a password reset, so you cannot miss it.

You will be greeted with a login window where you will need to enter your account credentials again. After that, this window will open where you will have the option to either enter your recovery key or acknowledge that your data will be lost. You will then receive your new recovery key.

Always store your Recovery Key in a secure place.

Why are my Badges not shown in the client?

As long as your account is still encrypted and

  • you have not entered your Recovery Key
  • or you have not completed a Fallback

…your badges will not sync to the client.

Once the encryption issue has been resolved using one of the above methods, your badges and other account data will sync normally again..

Always store your Recovery Key in a secure place and treat it like a master key. Without it your encrypted account data cannot be recovered.

I had to switch to a new computer and tried to go into myteamspeak and login. I had to change my password since I forgot it and relogged in. Nothing was saved and nothing was kept which isnt the issue because of the recovery key. But there is no were to PUT the recovery key to get my stuff back. Am I doing something wrong?
